Vokabel iOS app home screen — German vocabulary flashcards with der/die/das gender labels

Not another Duolingo.

A tool, not a casino. Open it, do your 5–10 cards, close it. Your progress lives on your device, not on someone else's server.

Everything You Need

Focused tools for real German vocabulary, nothing more.

160+ Essential Words

Greetings, food, numbers, colors, family, verbs, weather, places, and more — already organized into 15 categories. Every noun labeled der/die/das.

Smart Flashcards

Anki-style swipe to rate. Spaced repetition tracks per-word accuracy, interval, and ease factor — you review what you actually need to.

Two Quiz Formats

Multiple choice for fast recognition. Type-in for real recall — with diacritic-insensitive matching, so "schon" is close enough for "schön".

Native Pronunciation

Muttersprachlich. Every card reads itself in a native German voice. The hardest part of German is saying it right — don't skip that step.

Progress That Means Something

Streak flame. Accuracy by word. Toughest words list. No vanity metrics, no leaderboards, no nonsense.

Word of the Day Widget

A new German word on your Home Screen every morning. Plus lock-screen and inline variants.

Three steps. Actually three.

01

Tell us your pace

Pick a daily goal (5, 10, or 20 cards) and a focus: Survival, Travel, Conversation, or Everything. Takes 30 seconds.

02

Do a session

Today's cards show up on the Home tab. Swipe right if you knew it, left if you didn't. Session ends. Flame lights up.

03

Come back tomorrow

Vokabel remembers what you struggled with and brings those words back first. A few weeks in, your vocabulary is real.

The short answers

Is Vokabel really free?

Yes. No ads, no in-app purchases, no subscription. Apple takes no cut because there's nothing to take a cut of.

Do I need an internet connection?

Only to download the app. After that, everything works offline — flights, subways, rural cabins.

Is my progress synced across devices?

No. Progress is stored on-device only, which is also why there's nothing to track. If you reinstall or switch phones, you start fresh.

How is this different from Anki?

Anki is a general-purpose SRS tool you fill with your own cards. Vokabel is a finished product: the word list is curated, the audio is pre-wired, and the schedule is tuned for A1/A2 German specifically.

iPad support?

Yes. iPad gets a sidebar layout with category navigation. Works in portrait and landscape.

What about accessibility?

Full Dynamic Type, VoiceOver labels on every interactive element, system dark mode, reduce-motion friendly animations, generous tap targets.

We don't collect data. None.

Not a reduced amount. None.

No account. No sign-up. No email required.

No analytics SDK. No crash reporting. No advertising IDs. No third-party SDKs at all.

Everything you learn lives on your device. Uninstalling the app deletes everything.

That's it. Nothing more.
